Many individuals yearn for a partner who will rescue them from their difficulties and make their lives easier. I have been one of them. I recently came to the realization that this was even a thing I was unconsciously doing. I’d stay in a bad relationship just to have a partner there to ease the pain of life on some levels. Icky, I’m ashamed, yet this is a truth I’m coming to terms with after being coupled for 40 years.
This fantasy of being saved by a partner often stems from a desire for emotional support, validation, and a sense of security. It can be tempting to believe that someone else has the power to save us from life’s challenges. However, it is important to recognize that this fantasy may not align with reality.
